SHARE YOUR TALENTS IN NZMSM'S ANNUAL COMPETITION!

Several hundred students participate in our annual music competitions each year. Taking part is simple — choose your category and class, then prepare and practise your performance pieces.

On the day, students perform a test piece from their selected class, followed by a piece of their own choosing. Whether it is contemporary, country, or classical, this is an opportunity for students to showcase their musical ability and personal style.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each class. Adjudicators may also award Very Highly Commended and Highly Commended certificates for outstanding performances. Students achieving the highest aggregate scores in their section are awarded trophies, with over 55 trophies and hundreds of medals presented each year.

Family members, friends, classmates, and school teachers are all warmly encouraged to attend and support our performers throughout the day.

HOW OUR ANNUAL COMPETITIONS WORK

Several hundred pupils participate in our annual music competitions each year. To be part of it all you need to do is just choose your category and class and then practice, practice, practice.

On the night, you will be expected to play a test piece from your chosen class and then play a piece of your own choosing, be it contemporary, country or classical – this is where you get to show off your musical abilities, your way.

First in both classes receives a gold medal, second receives a silver medal, and third receives a bronze medal. There are also Very Highly Commended and Highly Commended Certificates awarded on the night. If you gain the most aggregate scores in your class you will also win a trophy. There are 55 trophies awarded each year and hundreds of medals.

Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, other family members, classmates and school teachers are welcome to come along to support you, too.

LEARN TO PERFORM THROUGH OUR LOCAL TEACHER CONCERTS

Build confidence and performance experience by participating in concerts organised by your teacher.

Many NZ Modern School of Music teachers hold student concerts throughout the year, providing a supportive and enjoyable environment where students can develop confidence, performance skills, and a love of entertaining through music.
