NZ Modern School of Music measures each pupil’s progress through three key elements — Competitions, Theory Exams, and Practical Exams. These programmes help students gain recognised music qualifications while also building confidence, motivation, discipline, and performance skills. All three elements are supported by the NZMSM range of music books, designed to guide and reinforce each student’s musical development.

PRACTICAL EXAMS

Our Practical Exams are held once per year in Aug

ANNUAL COMPETITION

The highlight of our annual calendar is the NZMSM Annual Competition, held each June. The event features a wide range of classes designed to suit students of all ages and ability levels, with medals awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Adjudicators may also present Highly Commended and Very Highly Commended certificates for outstanding performances.

A variety of trophies are awarded at the end-of-day prizegiving ceremony. The competition is a major event, with five halls operating throughout the day across Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, and Singing categories.

Our competitions are designed to celebrate both small and significant achievements in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment, with family and friends there to share in each student’s success.
